OLIVER, William Leslie Hastings (Les) - passed away peacefully at Rockyview Hospital on Friday October 25, 2024 at the age of 97. Les was born in Caterham, Surrey, England (1927) and was evacuated to Canada during WWII, through the “Children’s Overseas Reception Board” (C.O.R.B.). Served in the Royal Canadian Navy (1945-1970), first as a stoker, then worked his way up to Chief Petty Officer, ERA. Employed by Shell Canada at the Jumping Pound Gas Plant until he retired in 1988. Les enjoyed travelling in retirement. He was predeceased by his parents, sister, brother and sister-in-law, wife Marie and daughter Nancy. He is survived by his daughters Jane Wortman (Jesse Boobyer), Cathy Oliver, Susan Dashwood (Stew Dashwood), four grandchildren, Curtis, Jeff, Billy and Tristan as well as numerous nieces, nephews and great grandchildren. Les will be greatly missed and will be remembered for his gentleness and willing to offer a helping hand when needed. If desired, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
