John Douglas Hylsop

Died: 03 Jun 2008, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada

 

HYSLOP, John Douglas - the son of Henry Hill Hyslop and Jennie Fletcher, was born in May 1923. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy as a Boy Telegraphist on 19 August 1940; served in the Pacific theatre, including the Aleutians Campaign, aboard H.M.C.S. Prince Henry between 12 May 1942 and 10 April 1943; promoted to P.O. 2nd Class, 15 June 1950, then P.O. 1st Class, 15 August 1953; post-war service aboard the aircraft carriers H.M.C.S. Magnificent and Bonaventure; two years submarine qualification and training at H.M.S. Dolphin, including drafts HMS Adamant (submarine depot ship) and submarines H.M.S. Tapir, Scotsman, and Andrew.  He was Honourably Released on 26 Nov 1964. Hyslop married Thelma M. Chopty and died at Halifax on 3 June 2008.
