KNOWLES, John Bancroft - age 95 of Dartmouth. Passed away Monday, March 13, 2017 in the Veterans Memorial Building, QE II. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Born April 16, 1921 in Vancouver he was the son of the late Charles and Isabella (Scott) Knowles. John retired as Chief Petty Officer 2nd class after 20 years from the Royal Canadian Navy. Following the navy he was employed for 20 years as Superintendent of Maintenance with Canada Post. He was well known for his gardening especially his Rhododendrons and Azaleas. John was the oldest member of Hartlen Point Forces Golf Club. He was predeceased by his wife Ruby (MacPherson); sisters, Janet Kemper and Marion McIntire. He is survived by several nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held 1:30pm Monday, March 20 in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens 767 Main Street, Dartmouth, Rev. Joan Griffin officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Salvation Army, Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or the Shearwater Aviation Museum. John Knowles was the groomsman at the wedding of C2AT Reuban Smith and Cynthia Mader on 03 Dec 1948.
