A son of John Alexander Smith and Jean (née Cameron) Smith. He was born in Creemore, Ontario.. Reuben married Cynthia May Mader on 01 Dec 1948 at the RCNAS Chapel, Eastern Passage, Nova Scotia. He is buried in the Fairview Cemetery, Acton, Ontario.
CHESTER - On Sunday afternoon Nov.28, Mrs. Virgil B. Mader was hostess at a pre-nuptial reception in honor of Miss Cynthia Mader, R.N. of Chester and Dartmouth, whose marriage to C.P.O. R. J. Smith, R.C.N. took place at the Naval Chapel at Eastern Passage on Wednesday morning. Mrs. Mader was assisted in receiving by her aunt Miss E. B. Stanford, and Mrs. Andrew Rutherford poured at a beautiful appointed table decorated with baby chryanthemums and lighted by tall tapers, baby 'mums also decorating the rooms. A large number of guests were present to give their good wishes to the bride-elect. The hostess was assisted by in serving by Mrs. Orville Mader, Mrs. John McGregor and Miss Clara Webber. The bride-to-be received a number of beautiful gifts from the guests, the gift of the hostess being a luncheon set. - Mr. and Mrs. Virgil B. Mader, Miss E. B. Stanford, and Mr. and Mrs. Starr Mader motored to Dartmouth on Wednesday to attend the Smith-Mader wedding which took place at the Naval Chapel at Eastern Passage. WEDDING BELLS
SMITH-MADER - This wedding took place on Wednesday morning Dec. 3, at the Naval Chapel at eastern Passage. The bride is Miss Cynthia May Mader, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Starr Mader of Chester and the groom is C.P.O. Reuben John Smith of the Fleet Air Arm R.C.N. The bride was given in marriage by her father. She wore a floor length ivory sating with train, long veil of French net, and carried a bouquet of red roses. She was attended by her sister, Miss Bertha Maden as bridesmaid, who wore pick taffets, and Mrs. Joan O'Neil of Dartmouth, as matron of honour, who wore turquoise blue taffets, both with head dresses to match and both carrying nosegays. The officiating clergyman was Rev. H. Todd, Naval Chaplain. Best man was C.P.O. John Knowles, R.C.N., and the ushers P.O. James Donaldson and P.O. Edward White. The bride's mother wore aqua crepe with black accessories wearing corsage. There was a reception for immediate relatives and friends at the Belmont Hotel at Dartmouth. They went on a trip to Rochestery, N.Y. where they will visit the groom's relatives. The going away costume was brown wool with green accessories and a silver fox cape the gift of the groom. Miss Mader is a graduate nurse and is the Asst. Supervisor at the Nova Scotia Hospital. They will reside in Dartmouth.
