RAWLE, Bernard Walter (Barney) - Allen Heights, Halifax Co., died July 4, 1995, in Victoria General Hospital. Born in London, England, he was a son of the late Walter and Annie (Rodgers) Rawle. He immigrated to Canada in 1927 and joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1938 and served until 1959. He saw service on the North Atlantic during the Second World War and later served in the Korean Conflict. He also served with the no. 1 radiation detection unit in Nevada during the atomic bomb tests. Following the tests, he served as an instructor in nuclear warfare and completed his service career in Bonaventure. After retiring from the service, he worked with Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd. until 1966. At this time, he returned to Halifax and was employed with DND as staff officer evaluation. He was also with the naval engineering unit (Atlantic). He was a member of St. Margaret's Masonic Lodge, Royal Canadian Legion, Royal Canadian Naval Association and an associate member of the Ward Room at Stadacona. He was a patron of Bide-a-While Society. His interests included travelling, gardening and reading. Surviving are his wife, the former Frances MacLeod; brother, Douglas, Cole Harbour; sisters, Olive (Mrs. Ronald Mailman), Middleton; Frances (Mrs. Kenneth Keddy), Greenwood; Joan (Mrs. Gordon Sheridan), Nictaux Falls; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by an infant sister. Cremation has taken place. Memorial service 2:30 p.m. Friday in the United Baptist Church, Head of St. Margarets Bay, Rev. Tidd officiating.
