EDWARDS, Charles William (Bill) (Charlie) - Age 86. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Charles 'Bill' Edwards of Pleasant Harbour on December 21, 2014. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family in Twin Oaks Hospital, Musquodoboit Harbour, after a brief illness. Born in Ship Harbour, he was a son of the late Charles Otis Edwards and Ursula Helena (Hartlen) Edwards. As a young man, he joined the Merchant Marines and then was a member of the Royal Canadian Navy, serving on HMCS Cayuga, Swansea, Maggie, Quebec, Haida, New Liskard, Huron, Cape Breton and Restigouche. He was a veteran of the Korean War. Later, he and his first wife Irene owned and operated Edwards General Store in East Ship Harbour for about 20 years. Bill was predeceased by his beloved wife, Irene (Power); sisters, Dorothy, and Glenda (Robert) Drover, and brother, Robert Edwards. He is survived by his beloved and devoted wife, Amelia 'Millie' (Drover); daughters, Billie (Leon) Myers, Mineville; Ramona (Roger) Coolen, Lower Sackville and son, Andrew (Andrea) Townsend, Halifax; brother, Ken (Jean) Edwards, Musquodoboit Harbour, and sister, Sheila Touhey, New York. 'Poppie, Skipper' will be sadly missed by grandchildren, Jeffrey and Philip (Jill) Myers, Lillie Jane Coolen, Zachary and Charlie Townsend and great-grandchildren, Henry, Gabe and Emma; godsons, Sherman Power and Derek Drover. Also survived by brother-in-law, Rennie (Jean) Drover and sisters-in-law, Stella Hartling, Shirley Hall, Clara Edwards, Amy Graves. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews and wonderful friends and comrades. Special thanks to the very caring angels and Dr. Price at Twin Oaks, and to niece Jennifer Mckay and nephew Michael Drover, who sat faithfully through the final vigil. Bill and Millie enjoyed many adventures together, travelling, exploring our beautiful countryside and camping, meeting friends, wherever they went and always inviting new friends to drop by. They loved little pranks and dressing up for foolishness sake and for laughs. Always active in the community, Charlie/Bill was a member of Four Harbours Branch Legion for over 50 years and besides serving in a number of positions at his home branch, also served as zone commander for a time. He was also an active and faithful member of St. Peter’s Church, Murphy Cove and was most recently serving as parish warden for the parish of Tangier.
