Jim was born Vancouver, BC. His Family moved to Victoria the same year as his father, Cecil R. Cockrill joined the Royal Canadian Navy in May 1933. 
WWII, as a Leading Torpedoman, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer in May 1958.

 

James W. Cockrill joined the Navy. Oct on 01 Oct 1950 at HMCS Malahat, Victoria BC.  Prior to joining the Navy Jim served with RCSCC Rainbow in Victoria West.  He spent 20 years service as a Supply Technician serving at various Naval Establishments and RCN Ships.

 

He held various jobs between 1970 -1995, Rawlings Plumbing, driving tour Busses for Island Cioch Lines, and driving Tank Trucks for fuelling companies.

 

He finally retired at age 62 for the second time. Presently he is a member of the Chief and Petty Officers Association located in Esquimalt. A volunteer organization which has a motto of  "Service To Others".

 

He has two daughters, Charlene and Maureen; two grandsons James and Ryan; two Granddaughters, Amy and Emma; three great grandchildren, Jolene, Lora, Mila, and Beckett.  All reside on Vancouver Island.
