Died: 25 Nov 2020

 

MACKIE, William A. - Dad has gone to sea. Born in New Westminster, BC, Bill grew up in the Cloverdale area of the Lower Fraser Valley. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1953, served until his retirement in 1989, & was a member of the Chiefs & PO's Assoc. Predeceased by wife Ruth & son Scott; survived by his loving family: daughters Cheryl (Peter) & Janice, daughter-in-law Lisa, grandsons Bill & Jake, great-granddaughter Safire, & sister June Pickering. Bill used to run marathons & triathlons. In commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the RCN in 1985, Bill was proud to be part of a six-man relay team, completing the "Sea to Sea Run" from Halifax to Esquimalt. No service by request. Donations in lieu of flowers to the Salvation Army or a charity of your choice. (Victoria Times Colonist 29 Jan 2021)
