Phillip James Rody

Died: 24 Jul 2021, Miramichi, New Brunswick

 

RODY, Phillip James - of 404 Edmonton Crescent, Miramichi, NB, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2021 with his loving family by his side. Born in Geraldton, ON, predeceased by the love of his life Nancy. His mother Doris and father Michael Rody and siblings Eddie, Elsie and Roy.

 

Phillip joined the Navy on July 11, 1963 and served until September 16, 1998. Throughout his long and distinguished career with the Navy, both ashore and at sea in HMC ships and submarines, he served with honour and respect. He consistently demonstrated the highest standards of leadership, dedication and motivation in numerous positions of responsibility in sea-going billets and ashore. Of particular note was his tour of duty as Coxswain, of HMCS Preserver. During this time the ship conducted an extremely demanding deployment to Somalia in support of Canadian and international peace efforts. The successful completion of this operational assignment was, in no small part due to Chief Petty Officer First Class Rody’s excellent leadership and organizational skills.

 

Phillip is survived by his daughter, Laura Lee Gaudet and grandchildren, Ceilidh (Tanner) and Matthew Gaudet. Phillip is also survived by his loving niece Kelly (Rob) Anderson, along with his great nephews Sam and Seth Anderson, great niece Teagan (Philipe) Leger. Cherished nephew Chris Neal and great nieces Olivia and Alexandra.

 

A funeral service will be held from St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Wellington Street, Miramichi on Friday July 30, 2021 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Perry Cooper officiating. Burial will take place in St. Paul’s Anglican Cemetery. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, masks and social distancing is encouraged.

 

As expressions of sympathy, in Phillip’s memory, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or Canadian Legion Branch #3. Messages of condolence for the family can be sent through the funeral home website at www.bellsmeadows.com
