In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
McKENNA, John James - know as Jim by friends and family, born March 19, 1933 in Rossland BC passed away in his sleep at Victoria General Hospital on May 18, 2025 after a battle with Bone Marrow Cancer. Jim will always be remembered as an outdoor enthusiast. As a young man growing up in Rossland BC, Jim was a competitive skier, a passion that he maintained well into his seventies. Jim was also an avid fisherman and hunter, and an excellent gardener.
Jim completed 25 years of service with the Royal Canadian Navy and served in the Korean War. After his military service, Jim worked as a maintenance technician for the BC Department of Public Works, primarily in the Prince George area. He also spent many seasons as camp warden at Purden Lake where he enjoyed his winters skiing on Purden, Tabor and Powder King.
Jim was predeceased by his parents, Bernard and Sadie McKenna, and sisters Lillian, Sheila, Kathleen, Edith, and Joan.
He is survived by daughters Patty, Tracy, and Tarra, and son James, as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the members of Royal Canadian Legion #91, Langford BC for their care and support, as well as the Nurses and Doctors of the Victoria General and Royal Jubilee Hospitals.
Jim has requested there be no service. Family members will meet in Rossland to scatter his ashes at the Red Mountain Ski Hill. (The Victoria Times Colonist 21 Jun 2025)
