JOHNSON, Earl Jr. - Age 91, of Middleton, Annapolis Co., N.S., passed away on Monday, February 3, 2025, in Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born on October 17, 1933, in Moncton, New Brunswick, he was a son of the late Earl and Lucy (Smith) Johnson.

 

Earl had retired after 21 years in the Royal Canadian Navy. He served from 1951- 1953 with the 4th IND SIG Squadron (Reserve) and from 1954-1976 with the Royal Canadian Navy (Regular). Earl served in Canada and at sea while serving at the following bases: CFB Halifax, Cornwallis, Esquimalt and Point Edward Naval Base. He served on HMCS Algonquin, Huron, Chaudiere, Swansea, Restigouche, Margaree and Nipigon. Earl was awarded the Canadian Forces Decoration I. Later he taught at the Community College in Middleton, for 12 years as Intermediate Industrial Instructor. He was supervisor of Apprenticeship Training for five years with the Department of Labour and Manpower, working all over Nova Scotia. Earl also owned and operated Valley Lock & Key for 23 years. He loved working on puzzles, cryptograms and enjoyed time spent on his computer.

 

Surviving are daughters, Diana (Michael) Arsenault, Ontario; Deborah Johnson, British Columbia; Darlene (James) Atton, Alberta; Tanya Johnson, Prince Edward Island; and; son, David Johnson, Alberta; grandchildren, Melissa, Crystal, Jessica, Shannon, Jamie and Travis; five great granddaughters; three great grandsons; and two great great granddaughters; step sister, Doreen Johnson, New Brunswick; Leona (Betts) Gerrior, special friend, Alberta; one niece and two nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife the former Nancy Coolen; daughter, Beverly Ann (in infancy); brother, Lloyd Johnson.

 

A memorial service and reception will take place at a later time in Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, toll free 1-855-825-3448. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Middleton. Donations in his memory may be made to Chrysalis House Association. (Middleton Funeral Home)
