MURRAY, Leon James Ashworth, Sto 1C, V41543, RCNVR, MPK - 07 May 1944, HMCS VALLEYFIELD - Son of William Ashworth Rheaume, and of Stella B. Rheaume, of Flin Flon, Manitoba; step-son of Gene Rheume of Flin Flon.

 

Stoker Murray died when his ship, HMCS VALLEYFIELD, was torpedoed and sunk on 07 May 1944 by U-548. Of her crew of 163, there were only 38 survivors.  Murray Rapids in the Andrew River was named after him in 1995.
