BROWN, David Henry, LS, V19206, RCNVR, MPK - 07 May 1944, HMCS VALLEYFIELD - Son of Henry W. and Frances M. Brown, of Roseland, Ontario.
Leading Seaman Brown died when his ship, HMCS VALLEYFIELD, was torpedoed and sunk on 07 May 1944 by U-548. Of her crew of 163, there were only 38 survivors. AB David Edgar Brown, LS David Henry Brown and AB Merv Woods lost their lives when they went back to withdraw the primers from the depth charges before the boat sank. Their actions are described on page 213 of "U-Boats Against Canada."
Leading Seaman David Henry Brown has been honoured by having Brown Lake named after him. The location of Brown Lake is in the Yukon (95C07- 60° 19’ 01”- 124° 39’ 27”)
