GRANT, Robert Grierson, Sig, V10693, RCNVR, MPK - 24 Nov 1944, HMCS SHAWINIGAN - Son of Capt. Robert Norman Grant and Christina Reid Grant, of Regina, Saskatchewan.

 

Signalman Grant died when HMCS SHAWINIGAN was sunk by U-1228 on 24 Nov 1944. Of her crew of 91, there were no survivors.

 

Signalman Robert Grierson (Bobbie) Grant of Regina was the son of Dr. Robert Norman and Christina Grant. Dr. Grant served as a captain with the Canadian Dental Corps during the war. Bobbie was a graduate of Thomson school and Central collegiate and was a student when he enlisted on June 19, 1941 at Regina, Saskatchewan. Signalman Grant is one of 22 members of First Presbyterian congregation to be commemorated on a stained glass window in the church, and to have their stories told in David G. Marshall, Stained Glass Name: A Dedication of Remembrance, published by the church in 2002.
