JACOBS, Robert Archibald, Lieutenant, O-36075, RCN(R), Died - 08 Feb 1946, NAS RATTRAY - Son of Samuel B. Jacbobs of Calgary, Alberta.

Lieutenant R. A. Jacobs died as the result of injuries received due to an air accident off the coast of Scotland. His death occurred when a Barracuda torpedo bomber in which he was a crew member, while on a non-operational flight sank when a forced landing into the sea was made due to engine failure approximately ten miles north east of Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.  All 3 onboard survived the crash and the pilot and Lt Jacobs made it to a raft but both returned to the water to aid the 3rd member of the crew who was in difficulty.  Jacobs made it back to a raft and the pilot to another raft - the 3rd crew member did not make it. The pilot and Lt Jacobs were picked up by a rescue launch but Jacobs died on the way back to harbor from exhaustion and exposure. He was buried in the Old Churchyard, St. Fergus , Aberdeenshire, Scotland.
