HOWE, Ralph Ingram, OS, V65486, RCNVR, MPK - 07 May 1944, HMCS VALLEYFIELD - Son of Alexander Alden M. and Bertha G. Howe, of Fairville, New Brunswick.
Ordinary Seaman Ingram died when his ship, HMCS VALLEYFIELD, was torpedoed and sunk on 07 May 1944 by U-548. Of her crew of 163, there were only 38 survivors.
Ralph Ingraham Howe was born January 14, 1926 in Welsford, New Brunswick. He was the eldest of 2 children born to Alden M. Howe and Bertha G. Howe. Ralph Howe was 5'9" with dark brown hair and a medium complexion. His sister Harriet was 14 at the time of his death. Ralph went to school until the end of Grade 9. He had also begun an apprenticeship program in welding which was not completed. Before joining the navy, he worked as a grocery clerk and did some garage work. He also attended the Church of England.
