TOPPING, William R. - With his family at his side, on May 2, 2010 at Leamington District Memorial Hospital at the age of 90 years. William R. (Bing), C.D., born September 3, 1919 at Elgin, Ontario. Son of Josiah H. Topping and Maud Adrain. Pre-Deceased by his dear wife Helen Dulhanty of Halifax, (May 9, 1986), sister Alma Gifford and brother Gerald Topping of Forfar, Ontario. Dear father of Reg Topping (Victoria) of Essex; Kenneth Topping (Peggy), of London; Lois Van Zetten (Bert), of Windsor; and Ellen Topping, of Guelph. Also survived by grandchildren Annette Topping, Deborah Loeffen, Cheryl Cascio (Joe), Reginald Topping, Jeffrey Topping (Debbie), Paul Topping, Adam Van Zetten (Carole), Andrew Van Zetten (Jen), Helen Van Zetten, and Sean, Brooke and Lauren Adam. Also surviving are 17 great-grandchildren in Windsor and London. William served 25 years in the Royal Canadian Navy, and 20 years with the Canadian Consul General in Detroit, Michigan, until his retirement in 1984. Mr. Topping served on the H.M.C.S. Haida in WWll and was a member of the H.M.C.S. Association. The family would like to acknowledge the care and compassion of the nurses and staff of 2 North and East at Leamington District Memorial Hospital. Visiting at the Windsor Chapel Funeral Home, 1700 Tecumseh Rd., East on Tuesday May 4, 2010 from 2-5 pm, and from 7 pm until time of Funeral Service to celebrate William's life at 7:30 pm. Rev. Lance Smith officiating. Cremation to follow. As your expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the Essex County Lung Association.
