HURLEY, Michael Patrick, Sto 1c, V36734, RCNVR, MPK - 29 Apr 1944, HMCS ATHABASKAN - Son of Daniel Hurley, and of Marjory Hurley, of Toronto, Ontario.

 

Stoker Hurley died when his ship, HMCS ATHABASKAN G07, was sunk in the English Channel on April 29, 1944.

 

Stoker Michael Patrick Hurley was the younger brother of Leading Seaman Max Hurley. He was a Swimming instructor at HMCS York. Stoker M. P. Hurley enlisted in the R.C.N.V.R. in the spring of 1942, trained at HMCS Cornwallis and at Niobe in Scotland. A veteran of two years at sea, he served aboard H.M.S. Howe a British battleship before joining HMCS Athabaskan. Stoker M. P. Hurley was born in Toronto and attended Givens Street Public School. Surviving are his mother Mrs. Marjory Hurley, now of Montréal; a sister Mrs. Marguerite Davidge of Toronto and his brother Leading Seaman Max Hurley.
