KNOWLES, John Chesworth, PO, 4004, RCN, MPK - 16 Apr 1945, HMCS ESQUIMALT - Son of William H. and Annie Knowles, of Victoria, British Columbia; husband of Etta Knowles, of Sydney, Nova Scotia.

 

PO Knowles died when his ship, HMCS ESQUIMALT, was torpedoed and sunk by U-190 off the approaches to Halifax harbour.

 

Mrs. John C. Knowles, City, has received official information from Navy headquarters that her spouse, John C. Knowles, is reported lost at sea due to enemy action. Seaman Knowles, a native of British Columbia, is the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Knowles, Vista Heights, Victoria, British Columbia. Besides his wife, the former Etta Samms, he is survived by his parents, one sister, Mrs. Lillian Skulle and one brother William, serving with the Canadian Army overseas.
