SKYVINGTON, Francis George, SBA, V46829, RCNVR, MPK - 29 Apr 1944, HMCS ATHABASKAN - Son of Edgar George and Frances E. Skyvington, of Toronto, Ontario.

 

Sick Berth Attendant Francis George "Jimmie" Skyvington, reported missing since sinking of the Athabaskan in the English Channel, last May, is now presumed dead, his parents Mr. and Mrs. E. Skyvington, Wylie Ave., East York have been informed. He joined the sea cadets when 16 and later enlisted in the Canadian navy. He had served on nine different ships, said his father. "Jimmie" was among the first S.B.A.'s to go to Russia on convoy duty", he added. Jimmie was born in East York, he was educated at McGregor School and East York Collegiate. Before enlisting he was employed at Osgoode Hall. Surviving besides his parents are three brothers Sgt. Ed. Skyvington, Signalman Jack Skyvington, both in Holland, and Bill, and a sister, Mary, at home. (Article from the Toronto Star)
