Died: 06 Jun 2021

OLMSTEAD, Garry Ivan - The family of Garry Olmstead is deeply saddened by his passing on June 6, 2021. Garry was a beloved husband of 56 years to Mona (Weatherbie), a loving father to Lynn and Paul (Tammy) and a devoted grandfather to Sophie. He leaves behind many friends and family to cherish his memory and mourn his loss. We particularly wish to acknowledge condolences from Saskatchewan and Nova Scotia. Garry was born in Hanna, Alberta to Wally and Eileen (Ganong), the oldest of four boys. As a young man, he left the prairies, pursuing what would become a rewarding career in the Canadian Navy. He retired as a Commander at the age of 54 due to serious illness. Contrary to expectation, he was not finished with this life. Garry was gifted with a further 26 years, full living years. He became an engaged member of Church of Advent, anchored in contemplation of the faith that offered him such comfort in his remaining decades. Garry loved life. In return, he was loved and admired. He will be remembered. We wish him well on his journey beyond us. A private service will be held on Friday, June 11, 2021. (Victoria Times Colonist 12 Jun 2021)
