HUGHES, Darrell Martin (Dude) - Dude died in the early morning of September the 8th in the Three Hills Hospital. Dude leaves behind twin brother Sid, sister Gail and brother Monty. He was married 3 times (Lucille, Isabel and Margaret) and had 3 children, Darlene Alexander (Ron), Sharlene Danchuk (Curtis), Henry Hughes (Dawna). He had a wealth of grandchildren and a mixed family of stepchildren and in-laws whom he loved and considered his own. Dude was raised east of Elnora. At the age of 18 he joined the navy as a cook which was a topic of pride and many stories. Later he became a farmer and rancher of pigs, cows, llamas, alpacas, goats and loved his mules and donkeys. Dude ran the Elnora school buses for many years and had more than a few adventures along the way. Dude has touched so many people in his life that it would take years and gallons of coffee to hear them all. Dude will be sadly missed and his essence and colourful personality will never be replaced. Services for Dude were held on Friday, September 12, 2020. Donations may be made to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital. Kneehill Funeral Services, Trochu, entrusted with arrangements.
Darrell did broken time in the RCN serving 3 years in the late 1950s and then 2 to 3 years in the 1960-1962 time frame.
