Dave was born in Thrupp, Stroud Gloucestershire UK prior to the Second World War. On completion of school, he attended the Hartpury College with the intention of becoming a DVM, (Veterinary Medical Degree), However this did not materialize. In 1955 he immigrated to Canada, settling on Vancouver Island. Finding employment in both the agriculture and Forestry section. Later he Joined the Royal Canadian Navy on 01 Apr 1957 at HMCS Malahat, Victoria, BC, as a TAS Rate. (Torpedo Anti Submarine). This trade designation over time evolved into the Weapons Underwater & eventually Naval Weapons Technician. With postings & promotion He became the Coxswain on the destroyer Mackenzie, Base Chief at CFB Esquimalt (Naden). Command Chief Esquimalt (P), and postings at NDHQ Ottawa. After his release from the Navy, Dave worked for the BC Provincial Government for a few years before retiring in 2006.
