HENDERSON, Michael Wayne - With deep love and great sorrow, we announce the passing of Michael Wayne Henderson, beloved husband, devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, decorated veteran, and proud member of the Royal Canadian Navy, who passed away peacefully at Kelowna General Hospital on June 6, 2025.

Michael is predeceased by his parents Charles and Christina Henderson and Sister Jeannine (Don).
Michael, known lovingly to many as “Papa”, was born in Vernon, BC. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy at the young age of 17. His naval journey began on September 9, 1954 in Vancouver – HMCS Discovery. Shortly after that he moved to Victoria and was based out of HMCS Naden – Esquimalt, BC. The ships he proudly served on were the HMCS Stettler, HMCS Ontario and HMCS Jonquiere. In 1973 he proudly served as Commanding Officer of RCSCC Grenville Cadet Corp in Kelowna, B.C. where he inspired and led generations of Sea Cadets. He also served as the President of the Naval Veterans Association in Kelowna. Prior to his service with the Sea Cadets, he volunteered as a Scout Leader in the Central Okanagan where he mentored and led young individuals.
He met Jeanette, his loving wife of 66 years, while serving in the Navy in Victoria BC. They were married on October 7, 1958, in Vibank, Saskatchewan.
Michael had a boisterous and bold spirit with lots of stories to be told. He adored his family and had such a love and passion for the outdoors which he instilled in the hearts of his children and grandchildren. It is there where he found his greatest peace and love of life. He had great love for the Saskatchewan Rough Riders and the game of football. It was always an exciting time to catch a game with him.
He will be forever missed and always in our minds and hearts.
A celebration of life will be held on July 19, 2025 with family and friends. (Valleyview Funeral Home)
