WATSON, John Crittenden, Lt (E), RCNVR, MPK - 07 May 1944, HMCS VALLEYFIELD - Son of John Jordan Crittenden Watson, and of Mary S. Watson, of Washington, D.C., U.S.A.; husband of Mary Yvonne Watson, of Ottawa. Ontario.
Lieutenant Watson died when HMCS VALLEYFIELD, on which he was taking passage, was torpedoed and sunk on 07 May 1944 by U-548. There were only 38 survivors.
Lieutenant John Crittenden Watson, was not a member of the ship's company but was only travelling on the Valleyfield was reported missing in the sinking of the Canadian frigate, Valleyfield, lived at 1514 Crescent street here before joining the R.C.N.V.R. in December, 1942. A native of Yarmouth, N.S., a graduate in engineering from McGill University and a former employee of the Combustion Engineering Corporation, Limited, here, he went on active service with the navy in January, 1943. After a short spell of sea duty, he returned to Montréal late last summer to arrange for his marriage. His wife Mrs. Mary Watson resides at 291/2 Cameron Street is now at Dartmouth, N.S., while his mother live in Washington D.C. U.S.A. His father, J.C. Watson, formerly a consul in the U.S. Foreign Service, died some years ago.
