THERRIEN, Joseph Hector Clarence, Shpwt 4c, V49265, RCNVR, Killed - 07 May 1944, HMCS VALLEYFIELD - Son of John and Marguerite Therrien; husband of Alexina Therrien, of Cornwall, Ontario.
Shipwright Therrien died when his ship, HMCS VALLEYFIELD, was torpedoed and sunk on 07 May 1944 by U-548. Of her crew of 163, there were only 38 survivors. His body was recovered and he was buried in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery, St. John's, Newfoundland.
Shipwright 4th Class J. Hector Clarence Therrien has been killed in action at sea according to information received by his parents. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John and Marguerite Therrien; spouse of Alexina Therrien. Born in Dundee, Québec 27 years ago, he came to Cornwall, Ontario at an early age and attended school in Cornwall. He enlisted in R.C.N.V.R. October 28, 1942. He has two brother L.S. Victor Therrien and Petty Officer Aleide Therrien they served in the Canadian Navy. His wife Alexina Therrien, lives in Cornwall, Ontario.
