In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
CARRIER, Ronald Alvin - With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Ronald Alvin Carrier, aged 75. Ron passed away peacefully (yet unexpectedly) in his sleep while at his home in Lower Coverdale, NB on November 26, 2024. He is predeceased by his father Ephrem Carrier, mother Lucille (Gagnon) Carrier and Jean (Imray) Murtagh. He is survived by his wife Marie-Therese (Levesque) Carrier, brother Christian Carrier (Diane), sister Jennifer Murtagh (Derrick), 2 children Yves Carrier (Cheryl), Renee (Carrier) Hunter (Andrew), 4 grandchildren Lucille, Everett, Harley, Genevieve, and many loving family and friends.
Born Oct 4, 1949 in Grand Falls NB, Ron was proudly committed to his family heritage and friendships. Relationships with others was a focus he continued to nurture throughout his lifetime.
Married July 22, 1972 to Marie-Therese, Ron happily spent 52 years with the love of his life, inviting her to dance in the kitchen while participating in a lifetime of partnership & adventure.
Proud Son, Brother, Husband, Father and Grandfather, Ron's love, commitment and sense of adventure helped build a strong and resilient household. Following various career developments in the 80's and 90's, the Carrier family lived in Halifax, St Johns, Hamilton, Montreal and Fredericton, before Ron and Marie finally settled in Lower Coverdale. These frequent moves did not deter Rons' commitment to staying connected, with the Carrier's travelling often to visit friends and family across Eastern Canada and the USA.
Ron would move mountains to be there in person when needed. He was Generous, Hard working, Firm, Tenacious, Dependable, Kind and set in his ways. He loved supporting the pastimes of his children and later grandchildren, investing much focus into Renee (piano, softball, and cheerleading) and Yves (beavers/cubs, softball, hockey, and motorcycle racing).
Both jokester and distinguished master of ceremonies, Ron aspired to be the Life of the party. It can be certain there are many told, and to be retold, stories of Ron endeavouring to create a laugh or celebrate others at any event.
His pride in being a submariner was well known to all. Over his lifetime Ron was proudly a veteran sailor, staying in touch with his Navy friends. In the last 20+ years, he also invested spare time with the Submariners Association of Canada.
Working without pause from age 18 to 73, Ron stayed moving throughout his life and built a few careers based on resilience, entrepreneurship and hustle. Retirement came recently in 2023 after selling the 'Down East Clean Water' business he and Marie had successfully built over the last 15 years.
A Canadian military veteran, Ron followed his father Ephrem's Royal Canadian Navy footsteps, leaving school to spend 11 years sailing the world out of Halifax, NS. Ron sailed on various Canadian Navy destroyers from 1968 until 1973 before finishing his naval career within the confines of an O-Boat submarine. He was Honorably Discharged as Master Seaman, Radio Operator, in 1979.
After the Navy, Ron helped other mariners find their way and livelihood by selling Epsco marine technology to fishermen across the Maritimes. This sales foundation landed him a 20+ year sales and training career with Michelin Tires and later with Battery Direct. Other work roles he played over the years: Sub Aqua Scuba Dive Shop owner, Amway distributor, Arcade/Electronics repairman and Call Center Manager.
Rons past times were varied. He was a lifelong Hamilton Tiger Cats fan and loved refereeing youth Football into his 70's. Over his lifetime, he also greatly enjoyed scuba diving, painting, hunting, squash, golfing and motorcycle riding.
Donations may be made in memory of Ron to your local submariners' association and/or the Foundation Murcar Foundation Inc, a women's health education charity founded by his father Ephrem and wife Jean.
