David Leroy Sinclair

Died: 10 Nov 2023, Edmonton, Alberta

 

SINCLAIR, David Leroy - passed away peacefully on 10 November 2023 at Misericordia Hospital, Edmonton.

 

David was born in Calgary, AB 29 August 1939 to Elizabeth Annie Ward and Thomas Edward Sinclair, the baby of the family with brothers, Lloyd, Earl, George and sister, Joyce. His mother died when he was 18 months old and was adopted by his aunt, Mary Ratcliffe and joined the family of 3 girls, Beth, Florence, and May when they moved to Victoria, BC from Edmonton.

 

He served 25 years with the RCN and latterly worked as Fire, Security for many years before moving to Occupational Health with Vancouver Island Health Authority to round out 20 years.

 

He leaves to mourn his beloved wife, Sylvia Merriman Sinclair, daughter Rena (Henry) and son, Bruce (Tammy), grandsons, Christopher Leahy, Shawn Thomas, Austin and Ayden Sinclair. Nieces, Trisha, Gail, Sandra, Janice, nephew Les. Brother in law, Steve Merriman and his wife, Ann. Friends of long standing, Delaina Sadler, Rev. John and Judy Macquarrie, Rev. David and Daphne Fuller, Rev. Dennis and Diane Hayden and many others.

 

He and Sylvia enjoyed many happy years of Scottish Country Dancing, Old Time Dancing and lawn bowling with Oak Bay Lawn Bowling Club as well as gardening and a walking group from Monterey Center. Years of being a proud member of Clan Sinclair and representing them at the Victoria Highland Games and wonderful Clan Gathering trip in 2005. He loved taking pictures of flowers, nature and family. Years of working at the church in varying areas including pastoral care, sides person, counting the collection and handling of yearly income tax receipts and helping at parish fairs or fete's, helping to clean the cemetery when a cleaning crew was needed.

 

They were members of St. Luke's Anglican Church, Cedar Hill and thank Rev. Daniel Fournier, the Prayer Chain and friends for their prayers on his behalf.

 

Thanks to the wonderful staff on 2E Medical Ward of Misericordia Hospital, Pastoral Care and Palliative Care team for their care of David and to the excellent Ambulance/Fire crew who responded from Leduc.

 

There will be no formal service but ashes along with Sylvia's will be returned to Victoria when she dies, for interment in their plot at St. Luke's Anglican Church, Cedar Hill, Cemetery.
