WALLACE, Peter William, AB A/AA III, V11722, RCNVR, MPK - 29 Apr 1944, HMCS ATHABASKAN - Son of Christina Wallace, of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

 

AB Wallace died when his ship, HMCS ATHABASKAN, was torpedoed and sunk in the English Channel on 29 Apr 1944.  The province of Saskatchewan honoured Able Seaman Wallace by naming Wallace Bay in his honour.

 

Able Seaman Peter William Wallace of Saskatoon was the son of Peter and Christina Wallace who came from Scotland to Winnipeg just before World War I and settled at Saskatoon after the war. Peter Sr. worked for CN, Christina was employed at Eatons. Peter Jr. attended Buena Vista school and was working as a call boy for CN when he enlisted on June 20, 1941 at Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
