IRVINE, Leonard Clayton, AB A/AA3, V11886, RCNVR, killed - 29 Apr 1944, HMCS ATHABASKAN - Son of Margaret Irvine of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
AB Irvine died when his ship, HMCS ATHABASKAN G07, was sunk in the English Channel on April 29, 1944. His body was recovered and he was buried in the Plouescat Communal Cemetery, Finistere, France. The province of Saskatchewan honoured Able Seaman Irvine by naming Irvine Island in his honour.
Able Seaman Leonard Clayton Irvine of Saskatoon was the son of Margaret Irvine later of Vancouver. He was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Leonard was working as a presser at Broadway dry cleaners when he enlisted on October 20, 1941 at Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. The province of Saskatchewan honoured Able Seaman Irvine by naming Irvine Island in his honour.
