HEATHERINGTON, John Thomas, Sto 1c, V31647, RCNVR, MPK - 29 Apr 1944, HMCS ATHABASKAN - Son of Thomas and Martha Heatherington, of Regina, Saskatchewan.
Stoker Heatherington died when his ship, HMCS ATHABASKAN, was sunk in the English Channel on April 29, 1944. The province of Saskatchewan honoured chauffeur Heatherington by naming Heatherington Lake in his honour.
Reported missing aboard the Athabaskan was Stkr. first class John Thomas Heatherington, son of Mr. and Mrs. T. Heatherington, 3539 Fifth avenue, Regina. Born in Regina, Oct. 21, 1922, he attended Kitchener and Herchmer schools and Scott collegiate and was employed by Western Steel Products when he enlisted in March, 1942. He trained at Galt, Edmonton, Halifax and St. Hycinthe before going overseas in January, 1944. A brother, William George, is at home.
