Son of John Bell and Marie Payette. Michael joined the 17 Hussars of Montreal on 11 Mar 1941. He served in Canada and England before being discharged in June 1942 for being underage. He then joined the RCNVR on 10 Feb 1943, lying about his age - giving a date of birth of 04 Jul 1924.
