In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar

Ronald David Wismer

Acting Leading Seaman, V27238, RCNVR

Born: 16 Jan 1921, Guelph, Ontario

Died: 20 Dec 2005, Guelph, Ontario

Ronald served in the from 25 May 1941 to 26 Jul 1945.  He was demobilized at HMCS York, Toronto on 26 Jul 1945.  Ronald met his future wife when he was taking courses at the University of Toronto and they married on 29 Dec 1941.  Ronald passed away in Pickering, ON on 20 Dec 2005 just shy of his 85th birthday.

The portrait of Ronald (below) shows a Torpedoman trade badge.  He may have commenced training as a Torpedoman prior to becoming a Submarine Detector - as torpedomen were the electricians on board ship and his Certificate of Service indicates he completed an Electrical course at U of T. There is also a possibility that he enlisted as an SD as there is anecdotal information that at the start of the war, for security reasons, SDs wore a trade badge other than there own - but this has not been confirmed. There is no specific information in his service file that he qualified as a Torpedoman.
