MILLEDGE, John R. - 73, Toronto, Ont., formerly of Halifax, died August 5, 1995, in Baddeck. Born in Portsmouth, Mid Southsea, England, he was a son of the late Henry H. and Helen I. L. (Miles) Milledge. He served as a member of the board of directors of the Nova Scotia Red Cross; chairman of Halifax United Way; board of directors of Halifax Regional Library and chairman of Nova Scotia Developmentally Challenged Children's Association. He was a lieutenant in the Royal Canadian Navy, serving during the Second World War and was an investment broker in Halifax. He graduated from Loyola College, Montreal and Royal Rhodes Naval College, Victoria, B.C., and was a member of Nova Scotia Theatre Arts Guild. He won a national award for best actor for his lead role in the play Center Victorious. He was an avid sailor and tennis player. Surviving are his wife, the former Margaret Stanbury; daughters, Susan, Halifax; Christine (Mrs. David Fingard), Milwaukee, Wis.; Mary Lynne (Mrs. Hugh MacKay), Barbara Milledge, Ottawa; Judy (Mrs. Bruce Campbell), Fall River; sons, Eric P. and wife Barbara, Belle Mead, N.J.; Kevin A. and wife Nona, Vancouver; John A., Toronto; brothers, Frank Milledge, Kingston, Ont.; Rev. Anthony Milledge SJ, India; 11 grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Robert M. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today in Cruikshank's Halifax Funeral Home, 2032 Robie St. Funeral 11 a.m. Wednesday in Canadian Martyrs' Church, Rev. Granville officiating. Burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville. Donations to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or any charity. (Halifax Chronicle Herald 08 Aug 1995)
