In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
NOBLES, David Arthur - It saddens us to share that our: husband, father, grandfather and sibling David Arthur Nobles passed away at Ridgewood Veterans Wing on July 12th, 2023 with family by his side. David was born in Saint John, NB on June 30th, 1941, where he lived until 1954 when his family moved to Johnston Rd. in Loch Lomond, where he helped build the family home. David was predeceased by his parents, Norman and Mary (nee Hurley), as well as his beloved dog Sophie (you'd have to know Dave to understand their shared devotion – she was a yappy little Chihuahua with a Napolean complex).
He is survived and will be missed dearly by his family: his wife of 52 years Jackie (nee Norton), his daughter Jennifer (Mark) and his son David. Grandchildren: Hannah, Shaydan, Tristan, Brycen, Emmersyn and Samara. Siblings: Gail, Diane, Sean (Colleen), Peter (Brenda) and Michael. As well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. David was a member of the Armed Forces, joining the Navy on March 15th, 1963. David Sailed on many ships from the St. Laurent (first ship) to the Fraser (last ship), with many in-between. He finished his service at Marlant (Maritime Forces Atlantic Headquarters) working in Military Intelligence. Dave was lucky enough to spend the majority of his career in Halifax with time spent in Victoria, Ottawa and Montreal for courses. He also did several NATO tours and Department of Fisheries patrols, as well as many, many lesser tours while at sea serving his country. He always used to say that he “sailed the 7 seas”. He came home with many stories from the exotic....and not so exotic locations that he travelled to. He had a great sense of humour and a quick wit, along with a lot of colourful tales to tell and sayings that he will always be remembered for. In 1995 he officially retired from the Navy with 33+ years of service and the rank of PO1.
We are extremely grateful for the care that David received at RVW (Ridgewood) and how caring the staff were towards him, they treated him like family. We are also grateful to Dr. Grant for his kindness and understanding at the end. David had a long battle with many conditions: a blood clotting disorder, chronic renal failure, COPD, Hairy Cell Leukemia (he had at least 2 occurrences and we believe he was beginning to start a third when he passed) however worst of all, the one that slowly stole him from us, Lewy Body Dementia. Rest easy now Dave/Dad/Da, your suffering is over, and Sophie is waiting for you to sneak her treats.
A mass will be said for Dave at St. Joseph's Catholic Church on Loch Lomond Road (just past the airport) on Tuesday, August 8th at 6pm, followed by a gathering for those interested in celebrating Dave's life at the Hope Centre next door. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the following charities: the Canadian Cancer Society, the Alzheimer Society or the Kidney Foundation of Canada. (Fundy Funeral Home)
