SAKOLINSKY, Arnold (Arnie) - was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, 18 September 1943 and was raised in Brandon, Manitoba.

He joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1961 and commissioned from the ranks in 1972. He attained the rank of Lieutenant Commander before retirement.

Arnie served in numerous HMC ships in various positions, including his appointment as Commanding Officer of HMCS Miramichi in 1981. Arnie also served in several staff positions both at sea and ashore, last of which was Staff Officer Sea Operations Training in Maritime Command Headquarters, Halifax.

Arnie was posted to Winnipeg as Area Cadet Officer (Sea) in 1989 prior to medical release due to Multiple Sclerosis.

On retirement he enjoyed fishing and hunting with very good friends who would lend him a hand when needed.

Arnie was a dedicated outdoorsman and was founder of the Field and Stream Association for Manitobans with Disabilities. Working with Federal and Provincial Wildlife Officials, he was able to have changed the regulations that then gave disabled people the opportunity to hunt and shoot from a stationary vehicle for both game and waterfowl. Hundreds of disabled people throughout the provinces have enjoyed an enriched outdoors experience because of Arnie's dedication and perseverance.

Arnie leaves behind his wife Diana, sons, Craig and David, his granddaughters, Archianne and Marlow, his half-sister Beverley Wanzuk and many nieces, nephews and cousins. (Neil Bardal Funeral Centre)
