DONALDSON, William, LS QR III, 2816, RCN, MPK - 22 Oct 1940, HMCS MARGAREE - Son of William Geddis Donaldson and Margaret Donaldson, of Kamloops, British Columbia; husband of Theresa Ellen Donaldson, of Kamloops.

 

Leading Seaman Donaldson died when his ship, HMCS MARGAREE, was struck by the freighter SS Port Fairy while in convoy and was sunk. 143 of her crew were lost, 86 of them were survivors of HMCS FRASER.

 

Leading Seaman William Donaldson was the third son of Mr. and Mrs. Geddis Donaldson and Margaret Donaldson, of Kamloops. He was saved when HMCS Fraser was sunk only to lose his life on HMCS Margaree. He was married during his last leave, November 24, 1939 to Theresa Ellen Martin, of Kamloops.
