REEKIE, Charles Gordon (Gord) - was born in New Westminister, the youngest son of Thomas and Betty Reekie. He was predeceased by his parents and both his brothers, Thomas and Donald. He is survived by his bride of 66 years, Wanda, and his three children, Gordon (Terrie), Corinne (Ray) and Joe (Susan). He also is survived by the lights of his life, his grandchildren; Sean (Kyra), Alexandra (Samm), Justin, Jordan (Mo), Jamie, Mallory, Ashley and Max (Grace). Gord also had so much extended family who felt like his own children, but specifically, David Auringer and his children brought him so much joy.

In Dad's own words, he joined the navy right after his 17th birthday, for a good time, not a long time. It ended up being a long time as his natural leadership kept getting him promoted until he finally agreed to taking his commission.

After retirement, he and Wanda were able to travel to various countries in ASIA and Europe mainly to follow the Rugby World Cup. Luckily, she was also a fan.

Gord was a gifted athlete excelling in multiple sports, but his favourite was rugby where he made so many friends over the years. He captained the Navy, Velox and the Vampires as a prop over several decades. He was also involved in JDF soccer and minor hockey as both a coach and a referee. He instilled in all of his children a love of all sport, fitness and competition. He never let you win on purpose!!

Gord was charismatic, quick witted, and empathetic. His wisdom made him a wonderful mentor, second father to many and role model for us all. He had so many people who loved him and so many amazing friends. He loved to entertain and laugh and if you were his friend, you knew it and he cooked for you often.

The family wants to thanks Doctors Janicki and Kinahan for their compassionate care. They both did so much to try to give him and our family the best possible support. To the multiple doctors, therapists, orderlies and nurses at both VJH and RJH who provided care to him, thank you. You have no idea how much your care meant to us all.

Most importantly, we want to thank our mother for the incredible job she has done caring for our father for the past two years. Your commitment to each other has always provided us with the example of what a bond should look like. We are so proud of you.

No funeral by request, but a celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date.

No flowers, but please feel free to donate in Gord's honor to the BC Cancer Foundation, Heart and Stroke Foundation, or to your favourite charity. (The Victoria Times Colonist 17 May 2025)
