REYNOLDS, Morris H. (Moe) - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Moe Reynolds, age 89, of Halifax on Tuesday, March 18, 2025. Born on December 13, 1935, in Moncton, NB, he was son to the late Morris W. and Elizabeth (Parker) Reynolds of Parrsboro, NS. He is survived by his wife, Mary (née Jamieson), Halifax; son, Ken, Winnipeg; daughters, Krista (Grant Lingley), Dartmouth; Carol, Lunenburg; and grandsons, Alexander Lingley (Margot Eisenhauer), Ottawa and Matthew Lingley, Halifax. He was predeceased by two stepbrothers, Alfred and Layton.

Music played a significant role in Moe’s life from an early age growing up in Peticodiac, NB. Learning piano from his organist mother, he then developed a passion for drums. He continued his love of music while serving ten years, starting in 1954, as a percussionist in the Royal Canadian Navy. He was a proud member of the HMCS Cornwallis and Stadacona Navy Bands and sailed onboard HMCS Magnificent and Bonaventure. Moe continued his involvement with music after the Navy, performing with numerous musicians and bands including Don Messer’s Jubilee and Singalong Jubilee, Anne Murray, The Don Warner Orchestra, Joe Sealy, and the Sackville and Halifax Concert Bands. He also played as a studio drummer for local CBC Halifax Radio and TV shows.

A successful career in sales and business management followed, leading to senior positions with 3M Company, Xerox Canada, Wang Canada and Rogers Cantel before launching a training and consulting business in 1989. Moe supported the community by volunteering with many organizations that were connected to his family and his interest in fitness and health. He had the privilege to serve with several local boards including the Halifax YMCA, Halifax Dance, Parkinson’s Society, Junior Achievement and Run NS. Moe was also an official with the Nova Scotia Track and Field Association, Chair of the Terry Fox Halifax Run (inaugural year) and Chair of the YMCA Natal Day Road Race for four years.

Moe enjoyed being active and participated in many sports and activities with friends and family including cycling, orienteering, skiing and kayaking. His true love however was running and competing in running events. Entering his first race in 1965, he was a regular sight, in all weather, running the streets of Halifax, circling the Bedford Basin, and along the trails in Point Pleasant Park preparing for upcoming events. He ran the Boston Marathon several times but achieved his personal best of 2:55 at the Ottawa Marathon in 1981 at the age of 45.

A lifetime interest in aviation and a dream of becoming a pilot, Moe travelled to air shows, aircraft museums and could identify any aircraft that flew overhead. He proudly obtained his wings and private pilot license in 1980 and took great joy in being able to fly himself for work or take his daughters up for a flight around Halifax.

A regular fixture at the Halifax YMCA, strolling along Spring Garden Road and in the Public Gardens, Moe enjoyed meeting people from all walks of life and was always eager to have a chat. He was genuinely interested in what people were doing and always had a smile on his face.

A special thank you to the staff of Ocean View Continuing Care (Bayside unit), Eastern Passage, for their kindness and loving care during Moe’s time with them. In keeping with Moe’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family graveside interment service will be held in Parrsboro. Friends and family are invited to a 'Celebration of Life' reception on Sunday, April 27, 2025 from 1pm – 4pm, in the Community Room at the John W. Lindsay YMCA of Greater Halifax/Dartmouth, 5640 Sackville St., Halifax. All are welcome!

Moe was a proud volunteer, member, and ambassador of the Halifax YMCA his entire life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the YMCA of Greater Halifax/Dartmouth. (Smith's Funeral Home)
