They made the Ultimate Sacrifice
MACLAREN, Ian Pearson, Lt, O-45010, RCNVR, MPK - 07 May 1944, HMCS VALLEYFIELD - Son of Kenneth B. and Ida Maclaren, of Toronto, Ontario; husband of Helen S. Maclaren, of Toronto.
Lieutenant MacLaren died when his ship, HMCS VALLEYFIELD, was torpedoed and sunk on 07 May 1944 by U-548. Of her crew of 163, there were only 38 survivors.
Lieutenant Ian Pearson Maclaren, reported missing at sea, was received by Mr. and Mrs. K. B. MacLaren of Heathdale Rd. Lieutenant MacLaren, who was married 18 months ago to Helen Heinen, he attended University of Toronto for two years before he joined the R.C.N.V.R. He attended Forest Hill School and Vaughn Road collegiate prior to entering Varsity. He graduated from Kings' college, Halifax, and received his commission with the navy in August, 1941 when only 21. He was a signals officer. A brother, Lieut. David MacLaren, R.C.N.V.R., is stationed at Halifax.
