They made the Ultimate Sacrifice
KER, Frederick Southam, SLt, O-38577, RCNVR, Killed - 07 Sep 1940, HMS GODETIA - Son of Frederick Innes Ker, C.B.E., and Amy Wilson Sutham Ker, of Dundas, Ontario.. (webmaster's note): Official RCN records show that SLt Ker died on 07 Sep 1940. However letters from his father that are in his service file indicate that he died on 06 sep 1940 and records for GODETIA show that she was sunk of 06 Sep 1940)
Sub-Lieutenant Frederick Southam Ker entered into the R.C.N.V.R. on April 12, 1940 and was transferred to England for training on H.M.S. King Alfred on April 24, 1940.
Sub-Lieutenant Ker died when his ship, HMS GODETIA, which was on convoy escort duty, was sunk in a collision the SS MARSA with the loss of 33 of her crew. His body was recovered and he is buried in the Doune Cemetery, Girvan, Ayrshire, Scotland.
Frederick's brother, John Southam Ker, also served in the Navy.
