GUILBAULT, Joseph Rene Celestin, AB, V55803, RCNVR MPK - 07 May 1944, HMCS VALLEYFIELD - Son of Joseph and Gabrielle B. Guilbault, of Kelvington, Saskatchewan.
Able Seaman Guilbault died when his ship, HMCS VALLEYFIELD, was torpedoed and sunk on 07 May 1944 by U-548. Of her crew of 163, there were only 38 survivors.
Able Seaman Joseph Rene Celestin Guilbault of Kelvington, Saskatchewan was the son of Joseph Edgar and Gabrielle Guilbault who came from Fannystelle, Manitoba, in 1921. Joseph operated a machine shop. Several of Rene's brothers also served, Lucien in the R.C.A.F., Henri in the Army and Maxime in the Navy. Brothers Adolphe and Ovide also served in the postwar armed forces.
