GARRIOCH, Elmer George, AB, V22262, RCNVR, MPK - 07 May 1944, HMCS VALLEYFIELD - Son of John Edward and Mabel G. Garrioch, of Toronto, Ontario; husband of Edith Garrioch, of Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Able Seaman Garrioch died when his ship, HMCS VALLEYFIELD, was torpedoed and sunk on 07 May 1944 by U-548. Of her crew of 163, there were only 38 survivors.
Able Seaman Elmer George Garrioch, age 26 is missing following naval operations overseas, his father J. E. Garrioch, Medland Crest, has been advised. Able Seaman Garrioch is the 11th Toronto man listed as missing. Born in Toronto he attended School in the western section of the city and graduated from Western Technical School. Prior to enlisting he was employed by a truck manufacturing company. Able Seaman Garrioch enlisted in the navy at Toronto in 1940 and after a short training period at H.M.C.S.
