SOUTHALL, Harry Kenneth, AB, V24012, RCNVR, MPK - 13 Sep 1942, HMCS OTTAWA - Son of Henry Alfred Southall, and of Barbara Southall, of West Kildonan, Manitoba; husband of Jessie Southall, of Winnipeg, Manitoba.

 

Harry Kenneth Southall was born in West Kildonan and received his education at Centennial and Machray schools, where he was a member of school hockey and football teams. Prior to enlistment he was employed with the W. H. Escott Company. He has four sisters, Mrs. T. Spence, Sioux Lookout, Ont. Mrs. J. Simpson, Selkirk, Man. Mrs. A. H. Brown, Lac du Bonnet, and Mrs. W. Gracey, at home.

 

AB Southall died when HMCS OTTAWA H60 was torpedoed and sunk by U-91 on 13 Sep 1942. Of her crew of 175, plus 50 survivors they had picked up, there were only 69 survivors.
