JACKSON, John Robert (Jack), III - Born August 5, 1936 to John Jackson II and Helen (Dawdy) Jackson in Fort William, Ont. Jack is survived by his daughters Cheryl (Bob), Lori (Al), grandchildren Aaron and Tahryn and his sister Dr. Florence Jackson. He was predeceased by his wife Marney, daughter Kari and brother Earl. Dad was an avid outdoorsman enjoying fishing, hunting and hiking. He shared his love of the outdoors with his family, camping and fishing up and down Vancouver Island. Dad was a gifted hockey player, playing Junior hockey and for the Navy. Dad started to play golf in the 1960s, and as with most things, he excelled playing well into his 80s. Dad loved being in the Navy, achieving the rank of Chief ERA, and served on the West Coast for his entire career. After retirement Dad went on to teach at Esquimalt Fleet School, a position he was proud to take on as he enjoyed sharing his knowledge with others. Dad could fix anything and build pretty much everything. Mom and Dad made numerous life long friends while living in Belmont Park, then moving to Langford. They shared a love of curling and spent many a Friday night at the Juan de Fuca Curling Club. While living in Sooke both Mom and Dad became members of the Broomhill GC and proudly volunteered at the Sooke Legion. Dad also spent many hours volunteering with the Sooke Salmon Enhancement Society, a project that was dear to his heart. When Mom and Dad moved to Courtenay they both continued to golf playing at Glacier Greens. Dad then went on to play at the City of Comox GC. They both made many good friends at both clubs. There will be no service as per his request. (The Victoria Times Colonist 07 Dec 2024)
