ROBERTSON, Earl James, Coder, V9967, RCNVR, MPK - 13 Sep 1942, HMCS OTTAWA - Son of Robert and Mary Robertson, of Winnipeg, Manitoba.

 

Coder Robertson died when HMCS OTTAWA H60 was torpedoed and sunk by U-91 on 13 Sep 1942. Of her crew of 175, plus 50 survivors they had picked up, there were only 69 survivors.  He was educated at Gordon Bell High School in Winnipeg and formerly employed as a route messenger for CNR Telegraphs. His older brother, Telegraphist Robert Robertson, was lost in the sinking of HMCS GUYSBOROUGH. His father was a veteran of the First World War.
