In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
LEAVENS, David Spencer - 90, of Dartmouth, passed away peacefully with family by his side on April 26, 2010, in Dartmouth General Hospital. The only child of Harriett and Walton Leavens, Dave was born in Meaford, Ont., on January 21, 1920. He moved to Winnipeg at a young age. In 1940, he started his military career in the RCAF based in Calgary, Alta. He joined the RCN when the Fleet Air Arm was established at CFB Shearwater. He also served aboard the Magnificent and the Bonaventure. Following his military service, he was employed by North American Van Lines until his retirement in 1984. Dave was an avid golfer and a charter member of Hartlen Point Forces Golf Club. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for his quick wit and dry sense of humour. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marion; his son, Michael; daughters, Pat Josselyn and Susan (Eric) Grant, all of Dartmouth, as well as 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. today in Dartmouth Funeral Home, 29 Queen St., Dartmouth, followed by a funeral service in St. Clements Parish, 16 Gaston Rd. on Friday at 11 a.m. Private interment will follow at a later date.
