VALLILLEE, Ronald Richard - It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Ronald Richard Vallillee, on Monday, September 18 in Kingston, Nova Scotia.
Born on June 11th, 1931 in Ottawa to the late Clifford and Jean (Beaupre) Vallillee. Ron served in the Royal Canadian Navy for 30 years as a pay writer and retired as a Chief Petty Officer 2nd Class. Ron sailed on ships, Kootenay, Nootka, Cap de le Madeline, Saguenay and served in several onshore establishments, located in Cornwallis, Toronto, Montreal, and Halifax. Ron was also member of the Royal Canadian Legion for many years. Ron met his wife Dorothy, the love of his life, at HMCS Stadacona. Dorothy was a Wren, serving in the pay office there. They were married in 1964 at HMCS Shearwater.
Ron also served as a property assessor in Yarmouth for ten years for the Nova Scotia government. He was a member of the Desmond Piers Naval Association. He was also a member of the NSGREA.
Ron was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and served for a time as Grand Knight of Council 2181 Yarmouth. He also was a member of the Knights of Columbus choir.
Ron was a bowler and pool player much of the time when living in Yarmouth. He was still a cool pool player at age 91!
Besides his parents he is predeceased by twin brothers Clifford and Wilfred, twin brothers Robert and Jack, his twin brother Donald, brother Paul and sisters Joan and Darla.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Dorothy (Eldridge), daughter Jean Vallillee, son Kevin (Melissa and her children Nicole and Hunter), son Timothy (Agatha), daughter Sara Donnelly (Rob and his son Brett), his grandchildren Chelsea (Nick), Madison (Keith), Abby, Isaiah, Alexandria and great-grandchildren Tanner and Aria.
Also surviving are brother-in-law Douglas Eldridge (Yarmouth) and sister-in-law Carole Vallillee (Victoria BC) and several nieces and nephews.
Family would like to thank Janet Welton (Palliative Care), the VON and Annapolis Valley Homecare for their care over the past few weeks.
Arrangements are under the direction of Sweeny's Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Thursday September 21st from 2-4 and 7-9. There will be a Legion Service at 7:30pm on Thursday. The Funeral mass will be held at St. Ambrose Co-Cathedral, Yarmouth on Friday September 22nd at 10am, Father Henry Smolenaars officiating.
Burial will take place at Norwood Cemetery following funeral Mass. A reception will be held at 2pm at Jacob’s Loft upstairs at Sweeny's Funeral Home following the burial.
