COLLINS, James Eanis (Jim)  — East Lawrencetown Published: June 17, 2023 facebook sharing button twitter sharing button linkedin sharing button sharethis sharing button James Eanis “Jim” Collins Age 78, of East Lawrencetown, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 13. 2023. Born in Amherst, Nova Scotia on January 3, 1945, he was the son of the late Eanis and Barbara (Estabrooks) Collins, and brother to the late Sherry Lynn Collins. At the age of 18, Jim joined the Royal Canadian Navy, serving over the years as a Radar Operator/Technician on East Coast ships, CFB Halifax and CFB Shearwater, retiring in 1991 after 28 years of service to Canada as Petty Officer 2nd Class. Jim served on the HMCS Bonaventure, HMCS Chaudière, HMCS Bras D’or, HMCS Athabaskan, HMCS Huron and HMCS Iroquois. Jim then became an Instructor at the Canadian Forces Fleet School and continued serving in the Navy as a Test Equipment Coordinator before his retirement in 1991. After retirement, Jim continued to serve his country as a Bartender for the Warrant Officers’ & Sergeants’ Mess in Toronto before returning to his home in Lawrencetown. His love of sports included playing both baseball and hockey. He was an avid fan of many sports, particularly cheering on his Blue Jays, Bruins and the Halifax Mooseheads, in which he and his wife were season tickets holders for many years. Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. Jim loved his country and bluegrass music, spending much time with his family at the cottage in Jackson’s Point, jamming many a tune with his dad and sister. Jim will be loved and missed by his loving wife of 46 years, Violet; his daughters, Michelle (Adrian), Tammy; and son, Jimmy (Jill). “Poppy” will also be loved and missed by his 9 grandchildren, Danielle, Kelsey, Devin, Jade, Nicole, Shelby, Drake, Riley, Harley; and 1 great-granddaughter Gracelynn. The family would like to thank the Veterans Memorial Hospital 5W team for their care of Jim during the last years of his life. Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. A service will be held on June 22, 2023, at 10 a.m. located at the Atlantic Funeral Home Chapel on 771 Main Street in Dartmouth with a reception to follow.
