Died: 03 Jul 2017, Chatham, Ontario

 

STRETTON, Shirley Mary - Born October 30, 1930 in Saskatchewan, died at the Chatham-Kent Hospice on Monday, July 3, 2017. Last member of her family. Predeceased by father Art Stretton, mother Helen and stepmother Willa, brothers William and Bruce and sister Ruth Millar. Leaves behind her good friend Margaret Thomas, nephews Paul Millar, Art and George Stretton and nieces Susan and Shirley-Ann Stretton. Shirley proudly served in the Canadian Forces for twenty-three years, retiring in 1978. Following her military service, she served with the Corps. of Commisionaires in Victoria, B.C., for thirteen years. Shirley is a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 642, the Active Lifestyle Centre, the Catholic Women's League and the Red Hat Society. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated for Shirley at St. Agnes Parish, 52 Croydon Street, Chatham at 1:00 pm on Monday, July 10, 2017. Shirley was a Wren Petty Officer Regulator in Shearwater and Stadacona in the 1960’s and was a coach of the Wren ball team. She commissioned from the ranks 17 Apr 1963. Later in her career she was a Lt (N) Transportation Officer in Stadacona.
